Upgraded site to RC5 - Security update
« on: March 18, 2011, 12:41:36 AM »
I'm not exactly sure what the security issues were, but it was advised to upgrade the site to prevent security hacks.
With every update, we lose all of the add-ons.  So, bear with me while we get all the add-ons back in place.

The site has been down quite often recently since the RC5 upgrade.  The outages are caused when I install a mod.  The site has about 20 mods and each time I install one, it takes the site offline.  Rest assured that there is no possibility of data/image loss. I have backups of my backups before each change.

Why are mod installations taking the site offline?  I'm not sure.. they shouldn't.  I have to get with iPage support each time the site goes offline after a mod installation for them to correct the issue.  They, apparently, run a script to repair a bunch of things and aren't really sure what it is.. but its not something I can fix because they aren't changing anything I have visibility into.

Each web host has their issues.  This apparently is iPages.  Most of the mods are now installed... the database is healthy and all systems are go.. until I install another mod.  So, we may be seeing a few more of these in the near future, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  I regret the outages.

Kerbob:

I don't know if it's my browser or what, but the "show unread posts since last visit" is not working for me. Something related to the update maybe? I use this link all the time and before the update it was working fine.

Hmm. Its working for me, but I don't usually use that link and haven't tried it in a long while till just now.  Is it giving you an error or garbly-gook or stuff you've already read?  Anyone else having problems with the "Show unread posts since last visit" or anything else on the page?  The link is in the top left of the page under "Hello Username".

It's just not showing me anything under this link. I just tried again and it should have brought up your reply and a couple of others. I dunno. Maybe I'll test the waters on a new browser.  ::)

OK, more info. It seems to be an issue with IE8. Works fine with Firefox 4.  ???

Time to upgrade to IE9: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads

I've been running it since the release day; its better.. but not much better.  I've always preferred IE and Chrome is a close second.  I know Firefox is number 1, but I prefer the way pages look in the other two.

Firefox, IE, and Chrome have all released major upgrades in the last two weeks.

I've replicated the issue in:
Chrome 10.0.648.151
Chrome 10.0.648.204
Firefox 3.57
Firefox 3.59
Firefox 4.0
But it works in IE9 and my iPhone.
Weird.. I'll look into it.

Works fine in Safari 5.

What does act weird, when viewing on my iPhone everything works fine, but if I try to view PM's, it asks for my login info, like I am not logged in anymore.  ???

Ok, so Safari works perfectly, as it always has.  And to give further info on the iphone issues, I don't think it's PM related, I just noticed that any page deeper than the main index paid and it shows me logged out, going back to the index page and I'm in.  The other day I noticed that pages I had viewed on my phone didn't show up as having been viewed.  But now it makes sense, since reading a post is deeper than the index page, and those I show logged out, it didn't mark them as viewed for my account.  It has nothing to do with the PM pages, just any page that isn't the index page.  Now, why, I haven't a clue.  It was working perfectly before this recent upgrade, so I have to believe all these things are related to that.
