i got bored today so i clipped the wings on my hawk sky about 6inches. hopefully i'll be able to fly it next week. i may try to cut down the horizontal stabilizer like a inch to mach the wings instead of being rounded

along with clipping the wings i also would like to upgrade the motor. i am looking to get about 60mph, really not sure about the kv and apms , etc. it only get maybe 25mph level flight. I know the plane can handle 60mph with strengthening important aera with better servos. couple routes to choose from. https://www.killerplanes.com/product/hawkfighter-upgrade-kits i have seen the youtube video of the 60mph upgrade and looks pretty cool also http://www.ebay.com/itm/4000KV-RC-Plane-Airplane-Outrunner-Brushless-Motor-New-/170584484822?pt=AU_Toys_Hobbies_Radio_Controlled_Vehicles  and maybe a good esc to choose from. the reason why i would like to go a different route than killerplanes.com is because some on rcgroups have said their customer service is not so good and some other problems.

4000kv sounds like a really high kv if you intend to use 3S batteries, but if others have used it than give it a go.  Just seems like most people on planes like that are using 2000kv-3000kv motors and 5-6" props on 3S.  I'd advise against just picking a motor unless others have had success with it.  It will save you a ton of headaches in the long run.

I'm pretty sure I had that exact Mystery motor flying a 5x5 prop on 3S.  It was the motor that came in my Velocity delta that I got from TNT Hobbies.  Tom gave me a super deal on it I couldn't refuse.  The motor did go very fast.. but it didn't last long.  It gave a few good runs before it gave up the smoke.  I bought it used though, so that may be a factor.

I agree with Eric.. make sure others reported success with the setup.  The only Mystery motor I've owned burned up.  And it may not have been a fault of the motor.. I don't even know if that motor is rated to spin a 5x5 on 3S (11.1v).  I can't find any specs on it on the Intertube.

To me, that's a telling statement with almost any power system.  If it is shockingly fast or powerful, without the motor being a known power house by everyone, or it's not WAY over sized for that particular model, that should be a real indication that the motor is very likely being severely over powered and won't have a long life.

If you already own the motor, you really only have three options, sell the motor and get one more suited, use a smaller prop, or reduce to a lower cell count battery.  The latter two probably won't get the results you are looking for though.  Of course putting a watt meter on any setup and staying within the published specs is best.  But, if you don't have a meter, or worse yet, no specs on the motor, you are just taking a stab in the dark.  The hobby can get very expensive that way.  Again, use other's tests and knowledge with a specific power system to your benefit until you can accurately pick one yourself that will produce the performance you are looking for.

ok if i went the killerplanes.com route it would be $68 shipped for 60mph upgrade Each custom kit comes with a motor, ESC/BEC, propeller, and all the wires and connectors, heat shrink tubing, plugs , motor mount would this be wroth it the plane only cost around $120 and then i would probably have to upgrade the servos and push rods and connectors so in the end it probably would end up costing me as much as the plane cost, really not sure if it worth it in the end. i may just end up going with a warbird like a bf-109 or a p-47. thanks for the  info guys. hopefully here in the next week i can get my batteries fixed and see how clipping the wings makes it better 2 fly.

this morning i tossed the hawk sky in the air and out of nowhere the prop broke on i forgot to glue the esc wires back down and the prop hot the wires, the wires are fine, i may try to put a different prop on it cause the stock one was way small. gonna have to mod it some more and cut some of the tail down. hopefully i can find a prop saver that will fit, i think its a 3mm shaft.

3mm prop saver's are common.  Shouldn't be too hard to find anywhere including HobbyTownUSA. Here are a couple of others:

You can get them by the bag from China, but who wants to wait that long?

What size prop were you going to use again?  And also, what type of lipo? 3S?  Just wondering because the motor specs show you could get away with a 25amp ESC using the recommended props.
