dollar tree foam wing
« on: January 23, 2012, 06:47:48 PM »
well sinced i crashed the hawk sky, i've been looking at building like a 30" wing out of couple of layers of dollar tree foam, i got a ruff sctech of it done on the foam, i was thinking of cut one layer out and figure out where to put everythimg and cut out holes for the servos and a battery hatch and then just trace the others one out the first one

Are you thinking Kline-Fogleman style?

i have no clue what that design looks like. im trying to make this a easy project, i am trying to make a wing that would be good to put my keychain camera on, i'd like it to be fast that way could takeoff in smaller areas and not have to worry if im gonna make it over something and most important to me is simplicity. here is what i did my sketch off of last night. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1561068 im pretty sure my sketch was not to the scale i am wanting but i was gonna ask my math professor tomrow on the exact numbers

Try this thread, it's a simple way to make a simple airfoil.

yes im not really sure how to form the airfoil in the wing. i was looking at doing this one alsohttp://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1252282 where my mom works they have a big printer that they print maps off of and i think i may just print the plans off for the dead simple wing but scale it to 30" wing span

It's real simple, cut out the full size outline, then at the tip and root find the 40% point from the LE then draw a line from mark to mark. The drawn line becomes the TE of the step. Cut out the 40% out line from another sheet of foam and laminate it on top of the full size one with both LE's lined up. now you have a step at the 40% point.
Sand round the LE & you're done. (The LE cross section can be as airfoil shaped as you want.)
