AR6100E's for $28.83 shipped on eBay!
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:20:07 PM »
It's eBay, they ship out of Hong Kong, it's the AR6100e, not the 6110, but it seems like a legit deal for you Spektrum guys.  If you scroll down through the listing he answers someone's question that they are v1.6's, and not 1.2's.  May be worth a shot for a couple of cheap rx's, if you have time to wait a week or two for shipping.  The guy doesn't have a ton of feedbacks, but he does have 100%, I'd feel pretty comfortable giving him a shot!

The 6100's are great and do the job; most of my receivers are 6100's and I'm keeping them.  The new 6110's are $36.99 on BigSkyHobby and they're shipping is only a few bucks: http://www.bigskyhobby.com/cart.php?m=search_results&search=6110
BigSkyHobby always seems to have the lowest price for Spektrum receivers.  I think the 6110's are worth the extra dough and shipping will be super fast compared to China.

The differences with the new 6110's are:
- smaller size
- sturdier case (instead of flimsy flexible plastic)
- antenna has a 90 bend which gives it more signal diversity (mixed review on this)
- has a flashing red light which indicates number of holds (dropped frames) during a flight

Although both the 6100 and the 6110 have two antenna-like looking things sticking out of it.. there's really just ONE antenna in both.  You'll have to go to the AR500 at a minimum to get two antennas.  Somone on RCGroups did a range test with a 6100 compared to a 6200 (the one with a remote second antenna).  They both went about the same range (over a mile) but the 6100 had more drop outs at distance.  It all had to do with Line Of Site; the 6200 is better because it has line of site more often.

So does $23.66 shipped become any more tempting?

Add $2 and the package will ship with insurance and tracking.

Amazing!  How low will it go!?!  Very tempting.. I'm stocked up on 6100's.  For what I spent on my current stockpile, I could probably have 20 of these.  ::)

I'm holding out for the AR7000's for $25 shipped. I find that I'm going back to glow after playing with the electric toys... :)

Yeah, I was reading through that thread a day or so ago, when people weren't sure if they were authentic, seconds, or copies.  If they are copies, that's pretty much killed the secondary market for AR6100's for sure, now you will never know what you are getting.

Boy you got that right, according to this post I found on RCG from Hobby City, it is only a matter of time!  And when that happens, your right, they will move on to the other rx's, and Horizon will have a legal fight on their hands to protect their patent and brand.  Let's just hope that doesn't have too much effect on the price of the rx's.  It's impossible for it not to effect them, but too much would be bad for the whole industry, as all the 2.4Ghz rx's price point are based on Spektrum prices.

Hi guys.
I can confirm that there are many fake Spektrum receivers in Asia now.
For the past 3 months Hobbyking.com has been getting samples of these Rx's from various suppliers and factories in Indonesia, Thailand and China.
I've personally tested a few samples. They bind well, but the component quality and SMT work on some is very poor.

In discussion with one factory I was told China has developed the technology to copy MCU's now. And there are companies now that offer this as a service. (This is apparently how they copied the Spektrum MCU)

On my desk I have a bunch of different copied Spektrum Rx's, from the AR6100 to the AR9000 with external receiver.

What happens now?
The factories are reluctant to let alot of people know that they make these Rx's because there is a Patent on the technology. However, it's just a matter of time before one factory breaks ranks and starts to mass produce them; after which the others will follow, at which point Horizon Hobby kicks its legal team into overdrive, ad nauseum.

As a buyer I would be extremely careful. It's clear Quality Control is not in place on some of the samples I received and the MCU's are laser copies of their famous branded cousins.
If you're paying more than $10.00US for the copied AR6100 then you're paying too much. I sourced the ones on my desk for less than $7.00!

Here is a video I made of the micro version AR6300;

And now we know the rest of the story.... HobbyCity is gearing up to sell these for $14.95USD. The manufacturer is OrangeRX. It's labeled as a "Spektrum compatible" receiver and is even branded as Spektrum.
